How does a General Translation differ from a Specialized Translation?
When we talk about general translation, it is important to distinguish between specialized texts and general texts. Specialized texts come from an expert source and deal with various topics, they are always framed in a concrete and precise context. Therefore, the vocabulary and structures are fixed and can be very unnatural with respect to the general language. On the other hand, the general texts are all those that because of their characteristics, are subject to the general language.
What is general translation?
The concept of general translation refers to the translation of non-specialized texts. Therefore, they do not involve complexities either technical or terminological. Nevertheless, all types of text must be translated according to the customer’s or end user’s needs. The texts are aimed at non-specialized audiences, so the language must be clear and natural, limiting technicalities.
Although they are simple texts from a terminology point of view, the process of documentation and cultural adaptation is the same as a specialized text.
What kind of texts are general texts?
Examples of general texts may include newspaper texts, advertising texts, letters and emails, texts on tourism and gastronomy, information on art and culture, curricula, cover letters, letters of recommendation and others.
How do general translations get quoted?
Thanks to word processors, general translations are quoted by a number of words or pages as it is a parameter that is obtained easily and almost always immediately when analyzing texts and documents.

Prices vary as it is not the same to require 3000 words with a delivery time frame of 3 to 4 days as to require 3000 words for 5 in the afternoon, it does not cost the same to translate from English to Spanish as from Chinese to German because of the language combination complexity.
